FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the Airdrie Backyard Ultra?
The Airdrie Backyard Ultra is an endurance running event inspired by the original “Last Man Standing” format. Runners complete a 6.706 km (4.167 mile) loop every hour, starting on the hour, until only one runner remains. The last person to complete a loop within the time limit is declared the winner — everyone else receives a DNF (Did Not Finish).
Where does the event take place?
The race is held at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park in the heart of Airdrie, Alberta. Runners start and finish each loop on the track before heading out onto the scenic paved pathways around East Lake and through the surrounding community.
When is the event?
The inaugural Airdrie Backyard Ultra takes place on July 17, 2026, starting at 9:00 a.m. sharp. Runners must be ready at the start line before each hour begins.
How long does the event last?
As long as runners keep completing loops within the hour, the race continues — sometimes well into the night and even multiple days! The event ends only when one runner completes a solo loop after all others have dropped.
How does timing work?
Each loop is 6.706 km. Runners must complete it within one hour. Any time remaining before the next start can be used for rest, fueling, or recovery. The bell rings at the top of each hour to begin the next loop.

Absolutely! The event is designed to be spectator-friendly. The grandstands at Ed Eggerer Park provide a fantastic view of the track, and the community pathways make it easy to cheer runners along the route.
Is there parking available?
Yes, there’s plenty of free parking available at Genesis Place and nearby lots adjacent to Ed Eggerer Athletic Park. Please follow signage and volunteer directions on race day.
What should I bring?
Bring all your essentials for endurance racing: hydration, nutrition, extra gear, a change of clothes, and camping-style supplies for your crew setup. We recommend a folding chair, headlamp, and anything you might need if the event stretches overnight.
Are washrooms and water available?
Yes. Washrooms and water are available both at Genesis Place and in the start/finish area throughout the event.
Will there be food on site?
Basic aid station supplies (water, electrolytes, snacks) will be available. Runners are encouraged to bring their own preferred nutrition or meals for longer durations. There will also be food vendors and local options nearby for crews and spectators.
What happens if it rains or the weather changes?
The event will proceed rain or shine. Please prepare for all conditions — sun, wind, or wet weather. Only extreme conditions (like lightning) will delay or temporarily pause the race for safety reasons.
